My housing was leaking coolant, actually seeping because the metal was so thin. So I bought a new housing. With the housing I got a new thermostat(192f).
I used a re-usable gasket. Then the engine ran cooler still in operating temperature but barely. Thought it could have been the thermostat.
So I got a Motorcraft therm (192f) and used right stuff permatex. Same result.
Do you have to use a paper gasket for the therm to work right?
I've had this thing apart now 6 times for various reasons. I don't want to try a paper gasket just to find out the original one was just really hot like 196?
