The "That'll Never Work" Build.

Tagging and bagging:

Basically done with that. Drain the fluids, pull the midpipe, pull the coolant, AC, power steering, and fuel lines, and pull the driveshaft this weekend. At least that's the goal. Then disconnect anything else that's still on the following week, hopefully ready to yank it out by the following weekend.

Also have to flush the dexcool out of this thing. What a stupid idea that was.

Man, you did all that with a Leatherman?? You're one hell of a mechanic! Haha

Good luck with the project- I like seeing "new" builds, no matter how much crap people are going to give you for it. Like you said, it'll set you up for a SBC if you want to go that route later on.

More and more space around this thing. Almost everything is free, just the A/C lines and motor mounts(and everything I cant see that will hang up when it gets pulled.

Found some fun surprises along the way too. Radiator wasn't actually attached to the truck, fan shroud was about 1/2 there and held on by zip ties. This is what's left of it:

Hubs may actually not be bad, but the front calipers are frozen.

Any of you that have done motor swaps with all the bells and whistles(power steering, A/C, cruise control, etc) what parts did you keep from the donor and what did you use from the recipient? Specifically the A/C compressor, PS pump, and cruise module.

My question is and I don't give a rats ass what you put in your own truck, hell it's yours but what makes you think any accessory part from a Ford will work on a Chevy engine without mods? Without adapter brackets, custom built PS hoses etc.... your not gonna put the Ford parts on the Chevy engine. The compressor on the Ford is a Sanden, the Chevy is a Harrison and that's just a start.

I think you are in for an expensive swap once it's all finished.

Of course its not going to bolt right up, did you think I was that ignorant? But I would figure that a compressor is a compressor, so the A/C (if plumbed and wired properly) will probably work with the for condenser/coil/etc and the Chevy compressor. However if the power steering pressures are way different between the ford pump(for a rack setup like my edge has) and the Chevy pup(for a swing style box that is on the blazer) then I would assume I will have a problem and have to fab some conversion brackets. But if the pressures for the Chevy pump are within the limits of the ford rack, then hey presto I run down to napa and get some lines made and I'm off to the races.

If anyone has some real insight I will gladly listen, if you're here to talk crap on the Chevy you may or may not get ignored.

Drop the trans crossmember on the S10 before you attemp to remove the bellhousing bolts. That engine is a mother to pull out I jacked the cab of our S10 blazer up about 2" to gain better access and then heard of the other way of course i was just doing a engine swap. You'll thank me later.

As for the Chevy thing eeew. But it yours so have a blast.

So I guess it's not feasible to pull the engine and trans as a unit? Thanks for that.

Im not going to lie i am not a chevy guy but the fact you are doing this on a budget rules

Thanks! It's kind of a budget build in that I don't want to just piss away money on it, but I'm not afraid to spend it on certain things. I am going to get it properly tuned and a set of headers for it. Haven't decided whether to get the heads and intake manifold ported or not yet.

I'm a fan of both chevy and ford. Both have pro's and con's, good on you for doing something out of the ordinary. Subscribed

Never. I think you are taking on a very difficult task. What I was saying by not giving a rat's ass was I'm not one of those Automotive racists. LOL Putting a Chevy engine in a Ford isn't my cup of tea and it won't be the last. And if your posts looked like you were a derp I'd call ya on it. LOL

I've seen more than my fair share of swaps that got to a stage and died because they didn't plan the whole project through then lost their ass selling it.

Good luck and subscribed.

The race 10 has theft depending on what year it is. The transmission have some problem so look into that, before you get the tranny in. They make new intake gasket out of metal that won't fail every other oil change.

You are going to have to pull the tranny or cut thee core support out.

Good luck
Tim

Thanks. I believe this one has a chipped key because there is a security light that has flashed at me before. Do you know the brand of the metal intake gasket? I had seen that the Fel-Pros were an improvement also. Amazingly this one doesn't leak anywhere except a tiny bit from the tail shaft.

And I think the core support may be easier to remove than the tranny in its current state.

I am not Bowtie fan in the least but the 4.3 ain't horrible the one in our Blazer siezed from a injury to the oil filter with 130k on it and I managed to get it moving again and nursed another 10k out of it before chucking a cambearing and doing the game over thing in the Miejer parking lot. I have not had one single intake manifold issue with either motor.

I won't say that pulling the motor and trans together isn't possible, but if it is with the cab on I'd like to see it cause otherwise I don't beleive it. Me I would knock the cab off it and make some room in there pulling the motor is no picnic with that big painted metal thing behind and around it.
