So back to the first page, why defeat the locking system for the drawers, why not weld the lids open at a 45*, and rest the coffee table a little taller on open lids.

That's a really neat idea. I don't have a welder yet but maybe I can whip up a bracket to bolt in place. I can get an extra storage compartment per side that way.

I've got a really long cable too. It's not attached to a welder, but sometimes there IS a clamp on it.

So out of the 4 toolboxes the lowes I went to had in stock, only one of them wasn't beat to hell. So I guess I'm gonna try stopping in at a couple others tomorrow if I can get on the road soon enough. Tonight, I'm going to see about teaching gwaii a much easier way to get a useful 12v current than a car battery and trickle charger.
