the slo-vo build thread...

Still waiting for bracket pictures. Don't leave these guys hanging. I already know what they look like as I have a set tacked together in my shop. I have also seen 2 other sets tacked together and mocked up on trucks.

So far they fit on an 84 gen1 frame. Curious to know how they fit on a Gen 3 frame.

the will fit with stock D35 too right? i thought it was just 44s until sloue told me otherwise

damn 3 pages back, i guess its time to start working on the truck again.

i did manage to get the d44 brackets mostly welded tonight and ill finish them up tomarrow

what is your work schedule the rest of the week???

bout' time ya got those finished welded.....i need to "borrow" them.....:D

l8r, John

I'm not really sure yet not much going on so probably just a halfway tomarrow

jonny, how much difference did welding the rear make offroad? im very very close to doing it in mine

Welding the rear??:stop::badidea:

just save up 200 bucks and buy a lock rite locker. Or a mini spool. Or a full spool.

well im unemployed now, and when my next job starts ill be saving up the 250 for an aussie, that will be good with the welded rear for offroad. when/if i daily drive it, ill just put a lockright or something in the rear

so when your diff breaks how are you going to fix it?

Take it from someone how has learned the hard way on EVERYTHING to do with his truck. I understand you want the benefits that come with a locked rear, but it will end up costing you more than if you waited.

no it wont. mind you i have about a million scrapped RBVs. i alrady have an axle took out of a b2 with the same ratio, i got it out and fluid emptyed ready to weld. so when it breaks i have about a hundred spares, which is why i dont mind doing it

so why not sell some parts and buy the right thing??

I'm not sure I am following this? The only things you are are making unrepairable is the spider gears and I guess carrier since you are welding the gears to it. How is it a bad thing? I was thinking about doing mine until I buy a locker since the T loc ain't cutting it anymore. I don't drive mine on the street much either.

Please enlighten me!

Kyle, You just said it. The carrier/Diff and the spider gears. Not the whole rear end. There was a thread on Pirate about someone wanting to do this too, and there were all the ford guys telling him reasons why not to do it. I mean, if you guys dont care about tearing up the gears in the diff, then by all means.

This is the thread, but he is talking about the front, not the rear.

To each their own, but i have learned the hard way. I welded the gears in my 79 CJ, when it blew apart, the center pin cracked in 3 pieces, the carrier broke in half, but before it broke in half, it twisted, crushing both carrier bearings, and shattering the pinion U-joint. I was on my way to the OHV park. It wasnt a daily driver, just a drive in, drive out rig like you guys have. 70 MPH on the freeway and the rear end locks up, then blows to peices. Not fun.
