the skinny on the rangers death

the talk of bloating it like the new taco scares me,why the hell do we need a new truck thats too big AND too small at the same time? f^$@'N american "super size me" bullshit

My friend you hit the nail on the head!

Speaking of bloating....

My wife likes the new Tundras. She thinks I should look at one when the lease on my F-150 is up. She thinks they look beefy. Personally, I like the new F-150 better.......and I'm the one making the payment.

Looks like they care about the UK's Ranger more.

Euro and ROW (rest of world) vehicles meet the ECE and EEC crash regulations and not the more stringent US NHTSA's standards. Whats the difference? US requires you protect pinhead drivers that break the law and not wear their seatbelts. Euro regulations take into account the law says wear a seat belt so you should follow the law and allow manufacturers to test/build vehicles accordingly. This is what I was told...

sounds good to me,i've seen a few of those "beefy" tundras spit out a whole wheel/knuckle from the ball joints separating at speed and heard of others.and neither truck was used very hard.if i paid that much and had a wheel fly off during some built ford tough maneuvers i'de light it on fire and empty a few magazines into it.

i don't think those customers kept a tundra for long:icon_rofl::icon_thumby:

Aside from the Tundra being the ugliest truck produced since the Titan, I wouldn't purchase one just because of the amount of frame flex they have. One trip to my favorite camping spot and there would be holes punched in the back of the cab.

Seriously, I hate them, I felt like a space cadet in the cab! and the thing looks like it was a sleek sexy truck that is highly allergic to bees or something. made everything round on it, except for the front which his a brick wall.

I would like to see the small pick up live on, seeing as it is the only one left in existance, (tacos = gettin bigger, Dakotas = Gettin bigger) there are the colorados but I think they look fugly. I would rip out an eco tec engine and put it in my 84 they way it sounds these things will be friggin Awsome!

i always thought those things looked like spaceships. The tow hooks are a PIA to get to as well. Go FORD Jim! wait for the raptor!

i owned a dakota with a 360 in it. i loved the power didnt like the gas mileage. i own a 4x4 4.7 quad cab now and i love it. lots of room lots of power and 20 mpg going down the highway. i love the idea of a small diesel in a ranger or a v8. yes the 3.9 motor in the dakota was garbage the truck is too big for it. And about the union workers, i think there are tons of people who would work that job for a lot less right now, everyone should be taking the wage reduction to make the company profitable. It is nice to see higher up people taking wage cuts i wonder what the binus for them will be this year.

just so you guys know about crash test standards... now a roll over requires the roof to withstand 1.5x the weight of the vehicle... the new standards will require 2.5x the weight... so expect vehicle prices to increase with the mandatory "reengineering" of the pillars and roofs...

that is lame. our 2nd gen rangers or RBV's can take the pounding, and its heaver sheet metal driving it, so, why should this have cost us more? i mean... we're not asking for bullet proof trucks?

btw... I bought a Titan. i know... i know.... but it got 16k off sticker. F150's they would only give me 8k off.

I actually saw this at the ford rouge plant (I work there but for Severstal international) going out the gate... they weren't as big as the F-150 now, but more like the 80's size.... they didn't look bad if you had normal paint... one was like this picture while another was a solid...

I like the way it looks... it sits lower to the ground with the wheel wells higher in the body to give it a off-road look to it.

It's definitely going to be a contender in the off-road racing circuits.

I agree. There's a reason that quite making the f100's in the first place. As for a new Ranger, a redesign would be in order. But keep it recognizeable, and keep it the same size. All the redesigned tacomas and frontiers are way bigger than the old ones and don't even get good gas mileage, which is why people bought compacts in the first place. Keep the Ranger compact basically.

motortrend quoted ford as saying the reason the f-100 died was because the die-hard ford fans wanted 7500lbs of towing from the 6000 they offered, which would have constituted a redesign... they chose not to, and as a side bar mentioned that the average trailer and what-nots the American population tows is 5000lbs... go figure right!

and that copper toned truck that you see flying through the air was badged as the ranger when I saw it, so I don't know that the OP of that pic had that down or not.
