Any racer knows that the most power is made just before the pistons melt!
I don't care what compression ratio, boost or fuel you are running!
The trick is getting to a certain point and not beyond.
Pistons fail because of many things but usually it's from detonation.
I'm an old 2 stroke racer! Ask me about pistons!
My Kawasaki 750...bored to 1011 or so CC that every tenth run was going to hole a piston. I could replace the piston in under 45min, but every 40th run the block/case broke! After emission controls killed the 2 stroke blocks were hard to find so I sold it.
BTW, I was running 9 sec quarters...but I had a drum full of pistons!
That's all from a racing standpoint where meticulous care is taken when assembling the motor.
