1990 F150 4x2 5.0l 5spd

Next thing to break is going to be the smog pump. I just want to delete it with a proform 68110 smog pump eliminator. My question is where do the hoses on the smog pump go and can I just plug the hoses instead of plugging the holes left in the head when the hoses are removed.

I can find plenty of info on this for a 5.8l but nothing for a 5.0l

I think there are two threaded holes, one on the back of each head, that you will need to plug.

Straight threads, I used short bolts around 3/4” dia. Info is out there, Mustang guys do it all the time.

On the 88 engine in my mom's Mustang the holes in the heads that are for the AIR system are only 5/16, not 3/4, and they weren't threaded. The corresponding holes on the front of the heads have threaded inserts installed in them.

I plugged them with some small freeze plugs the last time I had the engine out. I doubt you could knock those plugs in with the engine in place though. Probably just as easy to get a pipe cap for the tube. IIRC the tube on the Mustang is 1/2 NPT.

I don't know which heads 85_Ranger4x4 has, I have the E7T heads, which BDAD's truck is likely to have since the 95 I did head gaskets on back in December was still using E7Ts.

Make sure you double check at the cat as well. Most of the trucks I have worked on had the upstream and downstream AIR system, so you get in pumped into the heads, but you also get it pumped into the cat, so that is another spot that would need plugged.

Pretty sure I just swapped everything over to the E7's when I swapped to them.

A quick bing search shows it to be 5/8" course thread, it has only been 7 years since I did it

I ran a tap in the threads to make sure they were clear but that would probably be difficult with the engine in a truck.

From the magnaflo kit I bought I am only using the Y-pipe, it came with an extension pipe to delete the cat, but they can’t sell it without the cat. I swear I will have to sell this truck if I ever move back to Portland ?
