The Linux Thread

Depends on how deep you’re in and how much time you have invested. The one thing about Linux is that everything is fixable. Almost everything anyway.
My thing is that as far as learning goes, I would probably want to start with the simplest possible setup. Nothing wrong with what you’ve done so far though. Counterpoint, given what you’ve learned already, if you were to buzz through the install again itll probably make even more sense.
Creating the usb again. Stand by. I might ask questions during the install.

I really have little to lose at this point. There is no data to lose. I'm still setting up the system. I probably don't even have all the packages installed yet that I'm going to need.

Did you say you’re installing to an external USB? No internal storage on that box? It’s not a problem, just curious.

Ok. Going to try the aggregated ports again. I think I'm doing better. Here are the screens and choices Iade so far.

Yeah that’s looking good. BTW you have 2.5 gigabit Ethernet ports so bonding might be overkill. Especially if you don’t have a router ABS upstream connection that can do at least 5 gigabits. 😁
You are wiring that into your router with 2 Ethernet cables right?

Internal 500gb for system
External usb-connected 2tb ssd for data

Yay! (Hopefully)
Bond0 has an ipv4 ip address!

Beauty. Now you can try to load 192.168.1.252 in a web browser on your network. Assuming Apache is enabled of course.

Might be one hitch I'll have to fix. There was an error retrieving ssh key from github.

Hmm, what step was that in? Why from GitHub? SSH keys are super easy to create from the command line.
I meant to ask, you are using the standard vanilla Ubuntu server from the Ubuntu site right?

Edit: can you ping the outside world? When you ping Google does it look like it’s using IPv4 now?

Ok. Go to sleep. I owe you at least one dinner or case of beer so far. Typed the ip into chrome on another machine and got this.

Success

Well done! My pleasure.
There will be more to learn but you’re on a roll now. 💪

I run two Lenovo Tiny PCs on Linux with Pihole/Unbound to perform DNS filtering. It's a tidy little package. I just peek at it once a week to check and apply updates.

I'm running OPNsense with Unbound. I set mine to update DNS filtering every three days.
