The Legacy of Whopper Jr

Damn, you painted lil red black, again ? :thefinger:

I hope you at least swapped out the lights so I could get those, right :D I can't decide if I want those with the 80/100 hyper white bulbs or go with the black projector lights and get hid. I just don't really like the look of the way the projectors are designed, it has too much of the halo look to them, which I absolutely despise...

I could never run projector headlights for the simple fact that everytime they are brought up all I can think of is when I was in school and having to take notes of one of them "high tech" overhead projector thingy's

LOL, that would look funny bolted to the front of a truck.

They went with it unfortunately. Oh well, Ebay has them for like a 100 bucks for the set.

Well, after having the truck for the whole weekend, I have identified a few things that will definitely need to be addressed.

1) There is a hesitation in the performance of the truck. You can feel the truck going into what i call retard mode where it wants to speed up, but it doesn't. Then all the sudden it kicks in. This is EXTREMELY annoying and robbing me of performance and mileage. A friend of mine has the dealer ECM/PCM reader so that is on the To-Do list for today. At least find out what is causing it.

2)There is an exhaust leak at the cats where someone installed a "custom" exhaust. I have to disconnect the downpipes from the manifolds to fully weld in the pipe. This is an easy fix, so it's something i will knock out very shortly

3) Bump steer. Never knew you could have bump steer in an IFS truck, but I assure you, you can. I had the tires and wheels balanced and rotated hoping that would be the cause, it wasn't. So this is the next issue I will be looking into

4) There is A TON of slop in the shifter. I'm not sure why, or even how to fix this, but it is something I am going to research. The O/D Off switch in the end of the shifter doesn't work either.

5) Passenger window regulator is jacked up. It goes up just fine, but doesn't want to go down at all.

6) A few broken interior pieces and the seat bottoms need to be recovered.

7) The body of this truck is in about the same condition as Lil' Red was in. Beat up old farm truck. I am not a fan of this. I am also not a fan of pathetic attempts at a paint job. This truck has both. So in the very near future, the truck will be receiving a new paint job, lights, and retinting of the windows (2 windows have the tint stripped, the rest are all different shades of purple and black)

I did get the body side moulding that was starting to peel off. The cheap paint came with it, but its gone.

Shouldn't this now be called "Big Black" instead of "Lil Red" ???

I also never knew a IFS could have bump steer, did someone in the past try to do a lift on the truck????

I already talked to Andrew. He is moving the thread and changing the name to "The Legacy of Whopper Jr"

It doesn't look like anything has been done suspension wise. Looks to be factory shocks and springs. I will be installing a Zone leveling kit with new shocks all around. See if that helps at all

the slop in the steering is probably your bump steer. How are the TRE's and everything else down there?

They all "looked" good. The slop isn't in the steering, it's in the shifter itself whenever your shifting from park to anything.
The truck drives very well, except when you hit a bump or a dip in the road. No vibrations from anything, no screaming power steering pump, nothing.

After scanning the computer, the truck is running lean. First thing will be a fuel filter change. If that doesn't fix it, clean the MAF. If that doesn't fix it, back to the scanner.

Shifter slop is due to the shifter tube in the column. Evidently these are prone to failing after years of use. They are aluminum and just wear out. LMC makes all the parts to fix it, so this will be next.

That's about it.

I just read it wrong... I read steering slop... :icon_rofl: dang me and my Missippi education :icon_bounceblue:

I would check your crank sensor also. If you have a computer handy, check your timing while accelerating. If the crank sensor is acting up, you may find the timing being retarded while accelerating from a stop.

We checked all the codes. Only other problems were a driver side wheel speed sensor and a driver door latch sensor.

Last night I replaced the fuel filter, which I'm almost positive it was the original one due to condition and being a motor craft brand. Still didn't fix it. So I cleaned the MAF sensor. Still didn't fix it. Then I looked at the gas cap and noticed it didn't fit right... So I went, bought a new cap, and wallah!! It's fixed (or so it seems at SOTP). Also changed the tails to the factory stuff. Not that hideous altezza crap
