A co-worker of mine got an envelope in the mail about 2 days ago from the IRS. She gets rather excited because she figures they made a mistake and so they are sending her a check back. No it turns out to be a bill......

FOR $0.03!!!!

sent by certified mail, with about 5 other copies for all the legal aspects. What a great way to spend our tax dollars!!!

This is no lie, a local news reporter will be doing a story on it on Tuesday I believe.

I got a Bill from my college for $0.23 once. Made only one quick phone call that semester from my dorm phone.

It cost more just in postage to mail the bill out.

Some logic classes would do our schools some good... It's like any form of business, figure out just how much it costs to send a bill out, versus what you'll actually get in payment from it.

Fools, all of them.

*Edit: It made me think of this incident LOL. That would be awesome if she would pay the bill this way!

yup, that sounds like something that would happen. they're processing so much stuff they probably dont even look at how much it is. they just see its short and send out a bill. Yea its a waste of tax money but its probably just pennies compared to tax money wasted elsewhere

i'm not sure most would understand that (i only do to a certain extent, however i'm still in high school lol)... or they would think that it is some sort of secret code and lock you up in Guantanamo lol

edit:

Yeah, I've seen that check before too. I did see it translated into regular numbers, and I think it worked out to some ridiculously low amount, but I don't remember what it was.

I have a calc that can handle that due to being in an engineering program but it is at home in my bag. :annoyed:

That is a waste of our tax payers money. One year of tax refund, I got a refund of $3 from OK taxes. They asked me if I want to donate it to the wildlife management. I told them "No" and they sent me the check for $3. Probably cost them more in work power and postage to send me my check.

well if i caught everything right from the phone call, he was billed .002 DOLLARS for each kilobyte, however he was quoted .002 CENTS before he went to canada.

i would have to imagine since checks are only formatted to be filled out in dollars, that the number represents 100 times less than .002 dollars because that is what his whole argument was about, and like 4 different verizon people couldn't separate the difference between .002 dollars and .002 cents, although most could separate the difference because .5 dollars and .5 cents... come on now????!!!
