The Horse with no name...

4.88's would so much better for 35's in terms of gas. Closer to stock tires/stock gearing.

Way better mpg.

...and the one thing everyone forgets, the weight of bigger tires, and increased rolling resistance.

Go a head and match to stock, you won't be happy.

14mpg is awesome for a V6 SASed ride on Swampers. Though I am much happier now since anytime my truck goes on the road now, it's on a trailer.

I pay $600 a month for everything on the 2nd vehicle(payment, insurance, and gas), plus the ride is better.

For me to get a second vehicle reliable enough with low enough mileage would cost around $4k initial purchase, $1100 a year for insurance, and closer to $400 a month in gas lol. Not worth it since I'd have to take the truck in winter anyways.

This.

And I'm not saying that if you sas a rig it automatically turns into a trailer queen. I'm just saying that once you do that it leads to bigger tires and such and to me mpg kinda goes out of the window. I plan to dd mine when I'm done with my sas I guess that I'm okay with having less milleage. I'm just wondering why someone would build something to go offroad quite a bit and they say I want gas mileage. If you can't afford to drive it why build it or buy it? But that's my opinion I just figured id ask because I'm curious

Badass looking DD...

That's what 4" lift kits and 32" tires are for.

Me..., I don't wanna get stuck.

Can't believe I haven't updated the thread in awhile. Today I finally had the energy and the time to start yanking the old 2.9. Got most of it done EXCEPT for the rusty exhaust pipe bolts screwed into the manifolds. Can't seem to get those f¥€|<ers loose!! PB Blaster and my cheapy Ingersoll impact gun aren't budging them. Anyone have a suggestion as to how to get them out? Cutting or acetylene torches? Or how about something else?

And this, ladies and gentlemen, is how you snatch a boat anchor out of its hole. Just need to get the 4.0 in now.

Just a major update, removed the old 2.9 and was about to drop the 4.0 in its place. I was going to replace the front and rear crank seals along with the oil pan gasket. Got the pin off and found myself looking at a crapload of metal in the bottom. Not a good sign. Seems part of the #6 piston skirt broke loose and decided to bounce around the oil pan destroying the baffle as well. So today I dragged this home.
I plan on removing the engine and M50-R1 transmission with transfer case. And hopefully sell off the rest so I can finally pay plumcrazy for the springs I wanted to get from him. Anyone looking for parts? I'll put up a ad in the parts for sale section.

Got the 4.0L in today of all days. Was able to get the bellhousing bolts in and the exhaust bolted up before I ran out of energy.

After finally getting the engine bolted in, I have a problem now. Can't seem to get the fuel pump to kick on and supply fuel to the engine. Using the wiring diagrams, I've figured out that the pink/black wire from the 93 explorer wiring is supposed to go to the black/pink wire in the 89 ranger harness going to the fuel pump. But when I try to energize the circuit I get no pressure from the pump. I can't even hear the pump kick on. What am I doing wrong?

Sat down and thought about it some more. I know that the fuel pump is getting power. But I'm not sure about if it's got a good ground. Can anyone tell me where the ground is?

Got totally fed up with this fuel pump problem that I sold it off to fund a newer ranger. Will be starting a new thread soon.

So you sold the truck because you couldn't get the fuel pump to run?

I got pissed off at just that. Didn't want to look at it anymore. So when I found a 96 extra cab I jumped on it.

Lol it's such a simple fix though!
