Been a while since ive been on here, I was at our national skills competition last week in toronto competing in automation and control. Brought home a bronze and had a lot of fun.
Worked on the front end a bit this week after work. Started pulling out u-joints trying to do it with a hammer and sockets with nobody there to hold the sockets was a pain in the ass so I went and got a u-joint removal tool at our local canadian tire. Had all 3 of them out in a matter of 15 minutes (had to fool around with the double cardan joint... only for dad to point out that i still had the caps on the open sides of the joint
). Also while i was in toronto, dad got his friend (a dodge mechanic) to smash out my ball joints and press the new ones in
Found out the broken seal on my pumpkin was letting dirt and mud into the diff and may or may not have screwed my carrier bearings, pinion bearing is a little rough but im not going to screw with that until its toast. My grandfather (the ford mechanic) agreed to help me set up the gears when i need to put the carrier back in. Todays project is going to be soaking/cleaning the carrier and bearings in varso (as recomended by poppy)
We ordered new studs that go into the beams for both sides, new retainers and im ordering a new slip yoke for my passenger shaft too (mud got in there from a missing boot clamp and screwed the splines..). Also realized yesterday that the front drive shaft slip joint is frozen from mud/rust, also from a missing boot clamp! Yay for missing boot clamps!
I have a bunch of pb blaster soaking in the slip joint so hopefully a little persuasion with a BFH will un-stick it.
Soon I will start re-assembly!
also ill post a few pics of my skills competition for anyone who might be interested!
