The Great American Classic

Finally got out this pos out from the bottom of the frame rail.

Had to drill holes from the bottom and push it out from the bottom. Then weld the holes back up

Just need to slowly start welding it together.

Did a bad job with the fit up on the last edge i needed to weld up, so I used a 1/16" 6013 rod that I scraped the flux off to help bridge the gap. I've seen this trick used to weld a gap from both sides with an Stick welder, so I figured why not. Cleaned the flux off so I didn't end up with a bunch of slag in my weld.

Huh. Good trick. Now in brain.

Once everything got painted I rebuilt the whole suspension. All new prothane poly bushings from LMR, Ford Racing springs, KYB shocks, MOOG tie rods and ball joints.

Haven’t decided what to do with the brakes, fairly new stock setup them when I took them off. So I will probably just put that stuff back on.

Couldn’t find the caliper bolts so I just put the rotors so, that way I could set it on the wheels.

I should really strip the engine down so I can check it out and order parts.

I want to call Morana and buy some go fast parts, but I think the budget is going to be closer to a new set of rings and bearings....

Stripped the engine down and found some bad looking cam bearings. I posted them in a different thread a while ago and can't find the pictures. Cam journals look great. Cavitation is only at the top of the bearing?

Ordered all new bearing and rings for the engine yesterday.

Kept hemming a hawing over what to do, not getting anything done. Decided to just pull the trigger and rebuild the stock engine since I will not be able to swing the cash to do anything fancy.

I decided to simply buy the cam bearing tool and do everything myself.

I pulled the cam bearings and started to hone the bores. Super happy with how the bores turned out. No low spots or carbon ridge at the top.

It’s hard to see in the picture, but the cross hatch is pretty close to 45*. So it turned out great for a hand job. Did four of the six.

You said hand job...

Nice ! .

I'm waiting to see the end product .

Here in Southern California these get impounded and scrapped out, a shame IMO as I grew up Down East and vividy remember trying to keep my ten year old 1959 Ford F100 shortie stepper on the road....
