The "Goldwing" Build Thread

I just looked on rockauto.com for you and all of theirs are under 100 the cheapest is 33 with the throw out. shipping to you is like 28 so its still under what your finding. they ship pretty damn fast too not sure on how fast to canada though...

Ended up being 89$ not bad and it sent a shipping conformation within an hr of me ordering it not bad

It hasnt been picked up until today so no tracking # yet... but im hoping its here by friday but i doubt it the border sucks

Not really just more $ i think. As for custom 4x4 shops theres next to none 90% of my aftermarket parts especially ford stuff i get from the states. Its also cheaper to drive down there for my classic ford parts (not to mention they actually are in good shape)

Update: 8/9/2013

Im going to broil this build back up in hope of some advice... I've been trying to sell the goldwing but finding that harder than i thought and i;d get about a grand less than i hoped for... i still am seriously wanting a full size diesel within the year (before collage), but i am not exactly happy with my truck the way it is right now (under powered, bad fuel mileage, only ok off road, boarderline terrible on). with my financial situation i can probably have a diesel by winter but i dont want to drive my truck the way it is for that long...

That all being said, i need new tires, BAD! and as ive been looking ive noticed 35's are much cheaper and easier to get for a 15" rim than 33's (thanks to jeeps coming stock with 17's and 33's now :annoyed:) my three options are to go up 2" in suspension (because axle swap and a whole new higher kit is too expensive... this is all on a STRICT budget), or 3" up in body to fit the 35's, or say f&#k it and keep my tiny ranger and save...

Ethier way, ill be spending about $500 MAX on tires/wheels but with 35's comes gears so there's about another $600... thats for brand new G2's but if i can snag some used ones itll be much cheaper (by the way im thinking 4.56's or 4.88's)...

Raising 2" in suspension will run me the following:
Front spacers - $50
rear shackles - $30
Shocks - $150
Brake lines - $120

3" body lift is $200...

im very anti body lift because it doesnt really add any actual performance just looks good, but my wallet would much rather go the body lift route haha

I've always wanted my truck to be on 35's or 36's because thats where i think rangers belong... im trying to get it on 35's but cheaply (around the $1000 to $1500 range) so im looking for past experices, options, ideas, cheap plans etc. haha

Body lift.

Theyre cheap. You can build one for far under $200 and it give you room for tires which add the needed performance. Go 35s and regear if needed

Body lift... bad. just cut the fenders. lol LOTS cheaper.

Update: 8/13/2013

I've been looking into SAS's again lately and im thinking about a leaf sprung d30... i know everyone is gunna say its a down grade yadda yadda yadda , but my d35 is cracked still and ive been running it low on fluid for nearly a year (ergo its shot), people will say theyre shit for anything over 33" tires but i see jeeps all the time on 35's+ wheeling the hell out of um.

The reasons im pondering the swap is:
its cheap - theyre everywhere for like $100
easy - hints the leaf sprung idea (cheap and easy)
same lug pattern - less hassle
same width - wont have to change rear

mainly i want the straight axle for the offroad ability, yet they still behave on road. i know there are people who can make a ttb act like a slinky and track straight down the road at 80mph but im not one of them so i just want to get away from it... :thefinger:

I have looked into the d44's but the lug's, having to narrow it/ find an EB which is impossible or buy rear to match, the ridiculous price to buy one, and how rare they are is making it option 2 instead of the actual plan. :annoyed:

on the other hand! Goldwing's been over heating lately. Well after about 30 mins (in town driving) i'd turn it off and about 2 min later i could hear it boiling (even though the temp gauge never got off the cold side of normal) so i got a new radiator cap,180* thermo, and sending unit from rock auto for like 12 bucks!! (love them! :headbang:) seemed to take care of the problem. :icon_thumby:

Just dropped like $20 on stickers at the TRS store! haha and my oil pressure sensor is now on the frits!!! :annoyed: so gunna get that, a oil pan gasket, and another few odds and ends from rock auto... hoping i can change the pan gasket without pulling the motor... wish me luck!!! haha

Perfect time to do that sas lol

yup my thoughts exactly! haha id love to do a d44 and d60 setup but its just not financially reachable right now and to be honest i feel its a bit of an overkill... i look at TNT and Double R running their d30's and i honestly dont plan on doing any harder crawling then they do.

It would make the oil pan swap easier. You will be cutting the engine crossmember out anyways
