The Engine Died!

I have a 1994 Mazda B-2300. It is overall in good shape. The body is rust free, tires are new (less than 1000 miles) good shocks, front end was rebuilt last year.

However . . .the transmission is shot and the engine died.

I can replace the engine/transmission for $2K. But KBB.com says its only worth $2K. So If I fixed it up to sell, the best I can do is break even.

Should I junk it?

What do you all advise?

I don't know where you've been looking, but I could find an engine and trans for around 500$.

yeah you could replace the engine and trans for way less than 2k

How did the engine in the truck "die"?

The timing belt probably broke.

$2K is the price for a fully rebuilt engine/transmission.

The engine has 215K miles. The cooling system is clogged with rust & gunk. I replaced the head last time it overheated & cracked. I think the same thing happened this time, but I don't have time to mess with it.

The engine has been going south for a while. Its hard to start, won't idle properly, now, since the last time it overheated, it will start but will not run more than a few seconds. When it does, it idles rough as hell.

I bought an '09 to replace the '94. I'm done worrying if it's going to get me to work.

I may put a 5L from a wrecked mustang in it.

you could find a low mileage engine and trans for less than a grand. look in jy's and on craigslist.

94 b4000 4.0 engine fried

Where to find list of engines that will drop-in? location-central tx. Anyone know where I can get a good-un priced right? Would I be better off to part out or whatever?
Will all 4.0 engines match up regardless of make, years? thanks ahead of time!
Open to replies, PM, phone call, email or hell, throw a rock at me! What is jy's?

Speak English please.

"Where to find list of engines that will drop-in?" is not a complete sentence, nor should "drop-in" be hyphenated.

I won't even touch "a good-un".

That's a shame, usually the OHC 2.3/2.5 were the most reliable engine in these trucks, common for them to go 300K+

People who can't speak their native language. And it wasn't this morning, it happened about 20 years ago.

Our thanks to the english professor and his needy student! Now we'll get back to the real problem. The decision to rebuild or junk your truck is entirely yours to make. If you spend $2k for new/rebuilt parts you will have a longer life for your truck. You won't recoup all you spend if you decide to sell after fixing it so don't expect to. (sorry, dangling participle)

The bottom line: If you repair the engine and transmission, CHANGE THE DEFECTIVE RADIATOR! It isn't that much more money and it will prevent you from having to repair the truck again later.
