I have not been able to figure out that the KEY difference (other than cosmetic) is between the Edge edition and say my FX4. Now I know about the heavier spring rates, and other stuff, etc. but that does not explain why so many common parts are listed in the parts catalogs as "All Rangers except Edge"... and the Edge has it's own part number. This is true at the Ford dealer and many after market parts suppliers. Is the frame different??

Thoughts, facts, opinions.... please...

i *think* an edge is 2wd with torsion bar suspension

The torsion bar is true, at least for, what, 2003 and up?? but the Edge is/was available as 4x4

I thought the biggest differnce was the front suspension on the 2wd models. Rather then the coil spings they had torsion bars like the 4wd. I've seen them 2 and 4wd. Other then that I know they have some cosmetic differences but thats all I'm aware of.

spittinfire, I think you're on to something.. I had not thought about the 4x2 having coil springs... my Rangers have been 4x4's..

Wasn't the Edge like the prerunner version of a Ranger?

I think they're sold under the Mazda label as Dual Sport also.

i have a 2002 edge 4x4 it has torsion bars aside from the stronger suspension it comes "standard" with higher ride hieght, 4:10 gears, a upgraded stereo package and some other stuff i cant really remember

the only difference in the edge is that the 2wd model comes with torsion bars rather than coils like everyone else has said.

I had an 01 Edge and I have an 03 4x4 xlt. Everything is the same. The two wheel drive edges have the torsion bar front end and factory lift blocks in the rear. That is the only difference that I found between the xlt and edge in two wheel drive. The Edge is the prerunner for the ranger. It is a two wheel drive set up like a four wheel drive.

The Trail Head edition was about the same, a 2wd with the torsion bar front suspension.

Right, on the 4x4 there isn't any difference.
FX4 and FX4 Level II do come standard with skidplates and a rear limited-slip, which were optional on Edges most years.

did u read his question? he asked why some parts dont fit edge models. well the only thing that wouldnt work on an edge is a 2wd suspension lift for a non edge being a coil spring lift kit. you can use a the same skid plate on all models of the same year.

I'm aware of that. Your point is what? I've been answering the same 20 or so questions about late-models since 2002 and I've probably forgotten more about late-models than what most people know. Other people had questions or comments about other late-model packages that I was also addressing. How about you do some reading too?

monochromatic bumpers/flares. Its a trim package basically. An XLT 4x4 has a black plastic valance and flares, and a chrome bumper, an Edge has painted flares, valance, and bumpers.
