Earlyer this winter I thought that I had a u-joint problem. It turns out that its a diff problem. While I was under my truck I noticed that the seal on my diff on the split axel side was leaking. This was while I was changing my u-joints. I filled my diff back up with gear oil. The clunk wasn't there for a little while after that, but know its back. What is the worst case senario for the cause of the clunk. I'm hoping that its just a bearing. Do I have to drop the front end out like on the d44 to take the chunk out.

If you haven't done the c-clip eliminator spring mod, the diff will have to come off to replace that seal, yes (probably just as well if something's clunking, you'll need to inspect it anyway).
