Day 4:
Robbie and I headed to La Veta, Colorado to make camp and meet up with
@Snoranger (Kevin) and
@sgtsandman (Mike).
@Curious Hound (Eric) had gone to Durango and experienced some mechanical issues and would meet up with us later.
This campground gave us an opportunity to get a warm shower before heading out as a group on our adventure the next morning.
Robbie, his son Zane and I were tent camping and didn't like the tent site they had, so they let us look at the empty sites and pick one to share. When Kevin and Mike arrived, they put them on the sites next to us.
Mike and Kevin had rooftop tents, and Robbie, Zane, and I had ground tents, so it was an interesting combination. By the end of the trip, we were comparing fuel mileage to see how the different weight of our vehicles and objects mounted above the cab height was affecting mileage. If there was an award for the most MPG, I would have won it.
The next morning, we packed up and headed for Bishop Castle. Bishop Castle was the dream of a guy that seemed to be in a constant battle with the local government over it.
The castle was cool, although a little sketchy in some areas. I think the guy that built it taught himself how to weld as he went along. IDK.
The have gas tanks connected to the Dragon head on the front of the castle and can make it breath fire.
