i pulled my 8.8 out of my explorer yesterday, and i was wondering what that big rounded weight thing was that was bolted to the front right side of the diff? and why is there an electrical connection attached to the diff? what is that for?

Electrical connection is for ABS.

The electrical connection should be for the ABS sensor.

Umm weight thingy? Wheel, tire, brake drum or disk... could use a better description.

no this round weight was directly bolted to one of the gusset fins right beside the flange off the diff, and it hung down? i was thinking mabey it evenly distributed the weight of the diff but not sure

I have no idea. I havent seen anything like that on any of the sploder 8.8's i have worked on.

Mine had a shock mounted there...could be a counter balance type thing like the t case has to help with axle wrap....a pic would help

I wanted to add: once you have the pic down loaded here, click on "preview post" to make sure it is right before you click "submit reply"

I've seen them. It's a vibration damper, as was stated. I guess in a lab arrangement it helped on that particular application. I would leave it alone if it were there.

It's there to absorb any whine noise/vibration from the axle. If the rubber is still good there's no harm in leaving it be.

The trade name is " Monkey testicles" or the slang for them. It's a vibration damper. Some Mustangs had them hanging off the tail housing.

just more weight doesnt really do much we pull of the mustangs to lose weight :3gears: but it does no harm it just a personal preference i guess
