so im finally rebuilding the 460....duh lol

im ordering this gasket kit:
JEGS Performance Products 210385 JEGS Gasket Sets

This ARP bolt kit:
ARP 555-9701 ARP Engine & Accessory Fastener Kits

And (maybe)this oil Pump:
Melling M84D Melling Oil Pumps

my question to you is, do you think i actually need to replace the oil pump while im in there?(the engine ran when we got it) what else should i replace while i have her opened up?

also, what color do you think i should paint the engine? im tired of seeing every engine being black or ford blue...i was thinking a white block with aluminum colored heads and black accesories.

Bright green or gray with black accessories. As for performance, I wouldn't know what to get. Try to match parts to where the engine will mostly be running at(rpm wise).

i was gonna do a bright green block but it would just be wierd cause my lift brackets and steering is bright red.

and as far as performance, im not lookin for much. the engine with no work should scoot the ranger right along nicely. i just want to rebuild and throw a cam and intake/carb on it while its out of the truck and already apart.

oh yah, shes gonna shit and git

i still need to find an affordable set of head bolts too, i dont want to shell out almost 200 bucks to ARP for those.

wouldnt suggest anything edelbrock other than intake manifolds...

isky has some nice 460 cams as well as lunati and of course comp. DO NOT just throw a cam in there so it sounds cool lol. what kind of powerband are you looking for? intake/carb setup? what CR are you running, exhaust or any other mods? rocker ratio, valve size, spring specs, etc. the list goes on. all things that must be considered before selecting a cam.

and personally i ALWAYS replace the oil pump whenever im in a motor. its just good insurance. do it, they're cheap.

i want low to mid range power, i could care less about how itll change the sound. itll be badass enough with just a set of glasspacks after the headers lol. CR is stock, i was considering 1.7 rockers but i think ill hold off on those. valves/springs are stock.

may i ask what is wrong with edelbrock cams? ive never heard of anybody having problems with them....although i would rather go with a comp cam instead.

honestly, im just not an edelbrock fan. their sbf heads are complete crap, carbs make me cringe (crappy to begin with carter replica), and most of their stuff is just generally overpriced. ive put a number of their 4.6l supercharger kits on, and theyre totally unimpressive for the price. not to mention quality is not even close to anything to write home about. they do however make nice intakes. that's pretty much what theyve been know for since day 1.

isky, comp, crane, lunati, etc are CAM companys, and that's what they do best.

what year is your motor and what #'s on the heads? not sure how much room you have to work with in those combustion chambers...

YES. replace the pump, its cheap insurance.

Also make sure the timing chain (and gears) is a 68-72 style "strait-up", not a 73+ "retarded" chain. I've read its good for 40+ more HP.

dont worry bout that none, i plan on going with a gear driven timing set.

Are you sure you can put up with hearing that all the time?

As for the comments about Edelbrock, most of the shit in/on my engine is Edelbrock. Only reason I went with them really is because the H/C/I are all matched.

Also, i'd spend the extra $10 and go with Fel-Pro gaskets. http://www.jegs.com/i/Fel-Pro/375/KS2305/10002/-1

yup, goin with the "noisy" set too. ive driven my dads truck plenty and ive never been annoyed by the sound of the gears.

sweet, i didnt see the fel-pro kit. i was a little leery about the jegs brand kit.

so you think that cam would be fine? if theres no durability issues with them i would rather get that than dropping the extra 110 bucks on the comp cam.
