Last year we put some gravel and covered it with limestone...did not pack it down and did not finish a section near where I park...this morning I got stuck in it...for the second time...

Had to call CAA and use up one of my tows because there was no way I could jack it up (safely) or drive it out...and nobody around to help push/pull around me at the time...

Anyone else having "one of those days"...oh, and today I had an interview for a not to shabby employment opportunity...and I did not get a number to call them back because I was distracted by a call that I got at the same time...

Is there a "slaps forehead" emoticon???

.... there ya go man, I had one of those days yesterday... it just sucked.

plywood under the gravel were you park will help

Where was your girlfriend? She could've pushed while you steer.

I would have been there to help, but we all know what happened to 'us'....

BTW...
The plywood idea is actually a really good solution, or, convert to 4x4....

Keep some of those grip boards that were in a thread a while back. Pieces of 1x4 or 2x4 with stucco sheeting nailed to it.

I just use the front or back winch and a land anchor if there's nothing to hook to within 250+ feet, dont wanna have to set my beer down just cause im stuck ya know.:headbang:

I've had those days.... lots of those days actually over the years....

Limestone makes a good base, but if the ground is soft, it needs to be packed in good. I prefer to use modified limestone (2A) and tamp it in on soft ground. Or get a bit of crushed concrete, pack that in and top it with limestone.

I just did my driveway this year, a lot of it was soft mucky clay type soil. I put about 32 tons of crushed concrete down on it so far. Ran over it with the skid steer to run it in a bit, but it really needs plated (plate tamped) yet. I got it about a good 8" thick over the whole driveway, once it's tamped down good it should make a great base.

:icon_rofl:

You guys crack me up...and thanks for the valid input also...

I was trying to stuff a piece of plywood under the wheels but by the time I thought of and found a decent piece I was about 15" too deep...

The grade of the driveway is partly the problem, because it slopes down into the division between the properties (whale? wale? I forget the term) and the part where I usually park was left much higher...with too much loose dirt...

There are skids stacked up behind to try to stop both me sliding into it and the dog next door from digging it up...and I missed the skid with my drive wheel while the other wheel just ran up onto the skid...causing an even higher difference than if the skid wasn't under the wheel...

This all came about because of the teflon tape in my carb...causing the truck to not run right in the lower end...no real excuses though...4x4 is not an option for me...right now at least...

Those days suck.

Yea, proper grading is important. Guess I've been a bit spoiled since I not only have a bit of an eye for grading but also a decent sized skid-steer at my disposal. Soft ground can cause a lot of headaches though. I got the skid steer somewhat immobilized this year a couple times trying to get my driveway dug out and everything graded. Still isn't all graded, but I'll worry about it next summer when things dry out a bit. Besides, I need more money for driveway stone and to get the stuff that's already in packed down before I do the final grading.
