thank you advanced auto

what dealership is this....remind me to never let my truck near there shop.....

I agree, there is no way the bulb did that. But it sucks it happened I agree

what dusto2 the bulbs are exactly the same exept for they ground through a different pin. the numbers were worn off the old bulbs, so checkin the numbers wasnt an option. went into the parts store told them what i needed and they gave me the part.

its not the ground pin that is different it is the high/low pins that are reversed, and ya when the numbers are worn off it does make it impossible to identify, just curious what year dodge do you have, i am at my parts store right now and what to see what comes up in my look up here,(we are a indepent store)

what does the door sticker say exactly month to be exact, according to my computer 98/99 is a split year early 98 is a 9004 and late 98 is a 9007

not exactly sure but, the correct one is 9004.

when i went back later to complain the guy i talked to (not the manager so he couldnt do any thing) put the same info in the computer and it came out with the correct number.

wait i thought you said it was a 9007 you needed and they gave you a 9004

So let me get this straight. You paid 600 dollars to get a harness swapped? I definitely KNOW for a fact that there are upper 90's Dodge trucks at Harry's. And a drive to EZ Pull would have found you a handful of them. That is a 20 dollar harness at the most. If you wanted to get raped that bad I would have done it for 500!

Not to dispute you but I think the headlights go through a relay and have a circuit breaker of some kind not a fuse. If you still have the old bulbs measure the resistance across the pins and that will tell if they are bad. Did both low beams go out at the same time? I've never seen that happen before.

I don't believe incorrect headlights will fry your wire harness, I would think something else caused this problem and may even happen again, I'd be leery of your stealership.

The mechanic is an idiot. I suggest you find a different shop to take your truck to in the future. They basically stole 600 bucks from you.

Did both low beams go out at the same time? I've never seen that happen before.

when i worked for mazda i had an old mx6 that both headlights were out i check out everything for a hour thinkin a electrical problem, and when everything checked good replaced both bulbs and it worked fine, it is rare to see both go at the same exact time but it could happen. I suggest to people at my store to replace both if anything is in pairs, on the simple fact that they have both been in service the same amount of time, and have seen the same amount of abuse ie rough roads, offroading, potholes being on long periods of time etc.

i worked for advance auto for a long time so heres what i know would have happened in my store. first off they will most likely refund you for the bulbs regardless of the situation and call them a defective product, and it is all going to depend on who the manager of the store is on how much else you will get from them. i was in a similar situation once when i was the manager on shift only it was involving a suburban an a/c unit and pretty much the whole accessory setup. i refunded the cost of the a/c pump b/c some moron that worked for me sold the wrong one and it muffed everything up. i also had to give them a new serpentine belt alternator and something else i can remember on the house. so basically tell them that its all their fault, show no mercy, if the manager is ok you might actually get somewhere and tell them that youd like to report the incident to their district manager either way it goes.

I just replaced the harness and switch in my friends 95 ram. Cost him about 100 bucks for both and 30 minutes to change. The dealer said they dont know caused it to fry. If you take the switch off, I willing to bet that the plastic part of the harness is a melted to the switch clip. The lows went out, then the highs go. Some of the metal prongs were rusted, which may have been the cause?(water)....
