Thailand Ranger concept

We should just make a poll. Which Ranger do you like best?

http://www.ford.com.au/servlet/ContentServer?cid=1163397392649&pagename=Page&site=FOA&c=DFYPage

Specs:
--2.5L I4 Diesel (105kW/145 PS/141hp--330 nM/243 lb.-ft. torque)
--3.0L I4 Diesel (115kW/156 PS/154hp--380 nM/280 lb.-ft. torque)

I think that it's a crazy idea to build 3 different body styles for all of the different areas of the world. Not to mention the 2 different powertrain lines. If the diesel is the preferred mode overseas, they could at least offer it to the US. I don't know how popular a diesel Ranger would be here today, but it might hold appeal for those that want something different.

any crewcab. I like my extended cab but want a crewcab. I don't like the sport trak.

why do they feel they have to shorten the bed? 6 foot bed is short enough.

I 2nd that, and i think i prefer the Australian version to any of the others.

I agree with you to on the lines that ford should not have two diffrent power train lines.

You know they just dropped the 3.0 vulcan.... maybe they are going to replace it with a 3.0 turbo diesel. :-D

well without the hard bed cover its a look one would have to get used too, actually looks kinda mean. you know, the more I stare at it and pretend that cover isnt there I think I would buy one, but definatly would need different tires!

I like it as well, it is about time that ford fully revamps the Ranger in the Americas!!

take off the BS on the bed, throw in a Ecoboost V6, get that grill and headlights more in line with the 2009 F-150, and give us 4 doors like mexicos and an option for that sweet Australian flatbed and ill replace my 04.

I agree. Probably the only reason that the SportTrac is still being sold is because Ford engineered the engine bay to hold a V8 more easily than the Ranger.

Maybe. But, if they did, I wouldn't expect it until after the Ranger gets a full re-design.

Also, to save Ford a little money, they could add the crew car (SuperCrew) body style & eliminate the Super Cab. But, keep the standard length bed on both the Reg. Cab & SuperCrew. No stubby beds for us.

You missed the South American models. Those are my favorite by far.

They are largely the same as the ones sold in Mexico, but with an available 3.0 diesel, outboard shocks, nicer trim (Limited models are quite nice), and some other odds and ends.

Considering they are based on the same platform as North American trucks, it would be pretty easy for Ford to give us those upgrades too, but I guess they have their reasons not to. The Ranger seems to get much more attention in South and Central American markets.

i like the south American model too but i didnt realize that the auzstrailian and euro models we so diferent than the others. i think the old platform, SA, NA and mexico model, are going out one way or another. i would support bringing the australian model to the us if they modifyed the front end to have a front bumper that left a strait horizontal line when removed so that installing a replacement bumper wont make it look like shit.

as i see it know it deems to have a weak hidden bumper behind a plastic or fiberglass cover that comes around the grill and stops just under the headlights. that would be a hard shape to replicate without alot of time, work or money. needs a real rear bumper too. but i do like the idea of a small desil motor, and retention of a manual trans. wish they would offer a manual T-case too. i like the AUS. models better than the ranger max.

An Aussie model wouldn't do it for me. They are essentially Mazdas. If I'm going to buy a Ford truck, I want an actual Ford truck. If I wanted a Japanese truck I would have bought one.

As someone pointed out in another thread, the Thai Ranger's ability to hold up in a wreck is questionable, and from what I have seen they are not really any better or more advanced than the Ford designed Rangers.

I'm only interested in the next Ranger if it continues to use the current platform with heavy updates, or if the replacement platform is an in-house Ford design.

didnt know it was a mazda build. mazda still markets the ranger as the b-serieswhy dont they sell them here? i agree, i would prefer the ranger be an american product.

Emissions, safety standards and the hassle of shipping them up here or building a new plant probably.

Seems like the SA models just get the bodies of the Mexican models & the engine option from the Aussie models. Not a bad idea. Supposedly when the next "all-new" Ranger comes out, it's supposed to be a true global Ranger. Sold in the same configuration in all countries. We'll see.

As a side note, did you know that in Argentina, the F-250 is sold there as the F-100? :shok:
