Too much MAX ?

It's OK if you can get it without all of that "stuff" piled on the bed! I was hoping that Ranger would stay a truck not a repository for surplus plastic that'll only be in the way when I haul yard-waste.

I'll buy it if it comes as a DURATEC XLT, in Red Fire Metallic without the "SUV crossover junk" stuck on the back and wheel wells that look like you had (4) simultaneous blow-outs!.

I am just one of those guys who feel that Crossovers are a trendy waste of raw material - not big enough to really do anything functional with but too big to get decent gas mileage. So .. what funtion do they serve but letting the lady down the street feel cool?

I take function over form any day in my book. Plastic body moulding is just a place for sand and moisture to find a home.

You missed the South American models. Those are my favorite by far.

Do you know what else we forgot? Since Ford & Mazda sell pretty much the same truck, what does Mazda sell globally? Obviously I'd say that the engine options will be the same. But, their styling is going to be a little different. For Mazda's global site, go to http://www.mazda.com. You can pick which region of the globe that you want to look at. But, the United Arab Emirates stood out to be different in engines as well. They offer a 2.6L OHC 4 cylinder that is less powerful than the US 2.3L. But, otherwise, it's the UK/Aussie body.

BTW, did anyone else notice that the North & South American models are the only ones to be 5-lug? All of the other "global" Rangers & B-series (BT-50s) are 6-lugs.

Emissions, safety standards and the hassle of shipping them up here or building a new plant probably.

Ford also owns a controlling portion of Mazda (although Ford has recently sold some its stock in Mazda). I believe the current generation of Mustang is assembled in the same plant as several Mazdas?

I really don't like the look of that. I know the current rangers haven't changed much for the last few years but i really like them the best out of any small truck these days. i would really like to see a crew cab ranger and the flareside brought back, since i know crew cab rangers' sales would skyrocket!

The crew cab market has been the bulk of new truck buyers. The traditional extended cabs probably sell due to price. Why Ford hasn't started selling a SuperCrew Ranger yet is baffling to me. What's worse, their attempt at a crew cab style truck (SportTrac) is too expensive.

It's an unfortunate side effect of the Explorer's success. By selling the Explorer Sport Trac instead of a crew cab Ranger, Ford can add to the Explorer's sales and keep their best seller status. Apparently they built some crew cab Rangers at the Edison, NJ plant to see if it would work to build them for the US market, but I guess that didn't pan out. It's too bad, because I bet a crew cab Ranger would sell like crazy. They are still in second place for small truck sales with no crew cab in the lineup...that's impressive.

While it's impressive, the SUV has been taking the brunt of the "gas hog" mentality. We know that Ford plans to take the Explorer to a unibody vehicle soon. That takes away the structure for a SportTrac & there's no guarantee that the next Explorer will even get better gas mileage. When Toyota, GM, Dodge, Nissan, etc. all started coming out with the crew cab versions of their trucks, it would have made sense for Ford to have the Ranger SuperCrew on the lots just in case the SportTrac was too expensive. It still is in my book.
