1996 Ranger "misfire cylinder 4" is what the scanner reads. The truck 2.3 has a fresh tune so I'm suspecting one of the coil packs is going. CEL is on and the truck has been sputtering during WOT and at idle. How do I figure out what coil pack to replace?

thx

so it has new plugs and wires? the misfire was there before you did the tune?

Did you add Techron to the tank?

primary resistance less then 5 ohms. secondary resistance 13k-14k ohms........could also be an injector or the ICM

not familar with the coil packs on the fords, but on my nissan's, you can swap the "thought to be bad" coil pack with another one, and see if the problem follows the coil pack.

i've never been good with numbers/ohms/resistance/ blah blah! let us know what ya find out!

Swap Coil Packs

Yes you can swap coil packs if the problem is the same its not the packs. I just went thru this on my 94 2.3l I tested everything it turned out to be the ICM was bad on the exhaust side. Do yourself a favor and go to a junk yard and get one cheep.

Two bad plug wires and an intermittent jolt of electricity from the intake coil pack was the problem. The wires were in excellent condition, don't let looks fool you, it was like the fourth of July under my hood the other night lol. Oh and the coil pack was ticking pretty loud whenever it was sending spark, that kinda gave it away.

I am not sure what any of that means......and I am fine with it
