I have a 98 xlt ext 4x4 auto. I picked up a 99 reg cab 2x4, auto. The engine in the 99 was replaced with one with 70K kms (42K miles) from a 2002 Ranger I believe, that's mostly why I bought it. My 98 runs ok with 210K kms (120K miles) but for how long...who knows. The 99 engine runs smooth, but I want to pull it, clean it and make sure it's all good. Is there a way to test run the engine on a test stand to ensure all is ok after I work on it or should I just put it in? Also the 99 has PATS will that be an issue when I swap the engine to my 98? Also would the tranny's be the same as well, cause the one in the 99 was changed with one from the same 2002 as the engine.

I might use the 99 as a 5.0 toy in the future, but for now...my 98 is the toy.

Any advice would be great.

thanks,

John

I'tll be a crapshoot changing engines. Who knows which will head south first? The one you have in there is running good and might outlast the one already swapped once..
I'd leave the one you just got on a engine stand till you really NEED it... Who knows, might be four or five years till you wear out the old one.
