Terrys 88 Bronco2 Restore

IMG_4287.jpeg

I have a spare set of valve covers. Cleaned them up and used the best set.

I tried about every engine degreaser there is. For baked on carbon grease, Easy Off works the best. I use it on axles, engines, transmission. Freshly painted covers.

I finally got the old gasket off. That was a work out getting it off.

Some reason I could not get the gasket to line up with bolt holes in the head. Patience is good. It is getting muggy already so will let gasket sit until tomorrow and form to bolt holes.

I have done frame off restores in the past. Wife has seen me take trucks and make them look descent. Says she would like to have this one when done and even wants to be involved in building it. She has helped me do body work in the past and other non greasy things, dont think she wants involved in this part. Goal is to have it done for Power Tour of next year. I seen one Bronco and one Ranger in it.Sounded like they were the only two in it.

Frame off restores are great, but the quicker you can get them on the road, the quicker you can enjoy them. This is going to be a "Rolling Restore"as soon as I can get the transmission fixed. Once I get the valve covers on, I will clean the cowl and do a full tune up on it. The heat is slowing me down for now.

The plan was to get valve covers on and then work my way up for a complete tune up. That was the plan. The picture did not turn out. Left side distributor cap had a zip tie holding on. You can see the screw hole is wallowed out. Right side screw is broken inside the hole.

I did finally get drivers side cover on. Ended up using original valve cover. Guess the one I had was tweaked. I went to bone yard and found a distributor but did not have the necessary tools to get it all the way out. Going back next week to get distributor. I am finally building me up a salvaged yard tool kit. Not first time I have been bitten not having the correct tools. Lesson learned.

I was going to have my transmission rebuilt. This come out if a wrecked truck I come across and the owner thought thinks it was rebuilt not long ago before it was just setting. It does look promising.
