My credo
Buy it, build it, and drive it like you stole it
Has anyone in a sport non fx4 installed the terrain management system. if so I have questions. would love that feature on my sport 4x4

What in tarnation is a terrain management system?

Is that the off road cruise system Ford was excited about on the new Rangers?

A system on fx4 that works with the abs to control traction in different conditions. snow, mud, gravel, ect. Looks like a switch change of 4x4 knob then a forscan enablement

No but looks like you can enable it the same way

That was trail control.

TMS on the Ranger is similar to the Goat modes in a Bronco.

If you do it and it works, write up a thing for the next guy. :icon_thumby:

I would think that most of the hardware is already there... aside from the selector switch and locking rear diff. I would think the real challenge would be flashing the correct software and debugging any issues.

I've found on another ranger forum some people have done it but I'm a dumb redneck and dont understand the enable stuff with a forscan. The forscan and switch look really affordable and would be a neat 200 dollar upgrade. If I wasn't a dumb redneck hahahaha

Even if you don't get into all of the hardware install and bit flipping for Terrain Management System... FORScan is a great investment... and it's not expensive.

Maybe start there and start your learning curve just seeing what it can do and monitoring parameters.

If you get the full licensed version of forscan, a little warning, don't go clicking around stuff you don't understand. Some of the advanced features can royally screw up your truck if you don't know what you are doing. Read up on forscans website before you try fiddling with stuff.

Sounds like a good idea. My mechanic skills go back to carberators and distributors haha.

And I don't haha

Yeah... you can brick your truck with one simple click. Nothing you want to do.

I started with points and carburetors...

Terrain Management:

Advanced technology provides an added measure of control, on or off the road. The Terrain Management System™ (included in the FX4 Off-Road Package) has four selectable drive modes. Choose Normal, Grass, Gravel/Snow, Mud/Ruts, or Sand. The system, shifting on the fly, automatically calibrates engine responsiveness, transmission gearing and vehicle control systems to provide the optimum traction, driveability and performance.

If you’ve ever had the antilock brakes kick in when you start to spin the tires, you know how frustrating that can be. With Terrain Management, the system loosens up the traction control to allow more wheel slip so it doesn’t slow you down.

The Terrain Management is activated by the ‘TM’ button in the center of the 4WD knob. When you push the button, a window will appear in the instrument cluster showing the Terrain Modes. As you push the button, it will scroll through the different Terrain Modes until you find the one you want.
