Terrain Management

Would the system be calibrated different with a V8 since my Explorer has the V8, I'm wondering if possibly the system is calibrated to be less intrusive...who knows, I just know I like it much better than my 2008 Tundra just killing everything at the slightest bit of wheel spin.

No idea, it has to spin to engage the AWD before TC will get fussy.

My 08 Explorer doesn't seem to cut power, it does if I hammer the throttle in a turn in snow/ice, but normally it doesn't seem to intervene hardly at all compared to my Toyota Tundra which I swear cut power before you even moved LOL. No limited slip in my Explorer either....had it in my 98 Grand Cherokee, it would get you sideways quite often LOL.
My Sport Trac was pretty fussy about it. Would cut the power abruptly enough that the shoulder belt would catch you.

I received the rotary switch with the terrain management button two weeks ago. I used FORScan to enable the off-road gauges and terrain management modes. the whole thing took about 5 min.
I went to the San Gabriel OHV on Sunday to try it out. Results were inconclusive as I didn't have many opportunities to see what would happen. Part of it is my truck is brand new and the OHV area was teeming with heavily modified trucks in the mud pits. In essence I chickened out.
Due to the extreme draught most of the OHV area is covered with a super fine (talc like) sand that is 4 to 6 inches deep. Didn't have any trouble with the system in the SAND mode. As I recall the steepest hill I tried was 10° and it was no problem with the locking rear diff on.
Here is what the gauges look like. This is a showroom stock 2021 XLT Sport 4X4 with the tow package.

That looks pretty much like mine. I don’t remember the power distribution display though. It could be I didn’t mess with it enough to run across it or it wasn’t part of the package in 2019.

From the TRUCK INFO you get the PITCH/STEERING/TILT screen Hit the arrow down on the left side of the steering wheel.
The POWER DISTRIBUTION has blue boxes under the tires that show where the power is going. In 4WD you get a box under each tire, in 2WD you get a box under the rear tires only.

Did they say anything about messing with warranty. I've been wanting to do this but dont want my dealer throwing a fit. They've been awesome with my level kit no bitching haha

The manufacturer cannot void your warranty because you add aftermarket parts to your vehicle. The caveat here is if it can be proven that the aftermarket gear caused the malfunction/breakage.
To take the argument to the extreme, would changing tires to a different brand (same size) be reason to void your warranty? However, if you put larger (wider, taller) tires that could be a contributing factor to failure.
The only thing I've done is activate features that are already part of their offering. Terrain Management (and attendant gauges) are already in the computer control module, these are essentially factory offered features. The switch is just a replacement switch and is a Ford part.
Finally, Edmunds.com has an article on this subject (What Voids Your Vehicle Warranty). The biggest factor is MISUSE. Did you abuse your vehicle or use it in a way it is not intended (racing, overloading, neglect, wrong fluids etc.).

Looks like a plan. I'll be doing this shortly. I'm gonna order parts today haha

Pfffft. Terrain management is mowing your lawn, not moving a dial. CHEATERS

LOL, but technically it's just pushing a button. You only need to turn the dial to get to 4L. And when you turn the dial be sure you've got your fun-o-meter set to the European scale.

🤔. Missed this one.

Mine seemed to shift to the desired mode when the terrain type was selected. All I needed to do was engage the rear locker.

Snow set it to 4 HI and I “remember” it going to 4 LO with mud. It is possible I’m misremembering that...
