Temp sender help....Hey AllanD ????

Hey Allan, I had a brain fart and I know you can help.

I have Autometer water temp gauge, where can I put the sender at? What is the acceptable normal temp for my 2.9?

I also have an Autometer oil pressure gauge, I hope I can just replace the factory sender on the front of the block? Right?

Your help is always appreciated. Anything new on your end?

Mechanical guage or electrical?

Personally I'm mounting my aftermarket guage sender inline with
the upper heater hose, but since I'm using an electrical guage
I'll also need to run a ground wire from the Brass Tee fitting with
the two brass hose nipples where I'm mounting the sender unit.

I don't want to eliminate my stock guage sensor
and on my 4.0 the stock guage sensor isn't as accessable
as the one on a 2.9 is anyway.

Do understand that the water comming off the "upper" heater hose
is the same water that would go to the stock temp sender,
but that the heater hose circulates water constantly unless you
have a new enough truck to have an underhood control valve
like a '95-up Explorer.

Well Allan, I installed the Auto Meter temp sender where the factory one was on the top right side of my intake. It seems to work normally at least for now anyway. As for my oil pressure sender, I installed a ''T'' fitting where the stock one was and put the Auto Meter one on one side and the factory one on the other...reads about 30-35#s...guess thats about normal huh?

Now for the BIG problem...On my way to the Bloomsburg 4 Wheel Jamboree, I kinda had a little glitch...

MY PASSENGER SIDE COIL SPRING BUCKET BROKE...taking out my right side brake line too of course....

It basically tore (aka rusted) at the frame from the front back to where the shock is. My coil is now at a 30 degree angle up against the shock, and my frame is on the axle. I had to U-Haul it home from the show...$67.00 later.

You wouldn't by any chance have any coil spring buckets laying around would you???

James Duff makes replacements for $220 and I could then run dual shocks up front, but, not sure if I want to go that route, even though I might have to.

If I do, I wanted to get longer radius arms too, but they are super expensive...Ideas...Thoughts...

Or, should I just rip everything off my 91 Explorer and swap my D28 for a D35...and do a gear swap? So I could do a rear axle swap and put in a 8.8?

D35 needs ball joints and wheel bearings too...


Oh, I forgot to mention, my exaust rusted off at the rear flange of the cat...any ideas on that???

I'd go to the junkyard with a cordless drill a couple of freshly sharpened cold chiesels
and a 3lb hammer and "harvest" a used one off a rust free explorer.

The coil buckets are pretty much all the same.

I had one tear apart too, but I can show you how to prevent the next one from doing that.

Part of the spring bucket is shapped like a Funnel and it traps dirt, the dirt holds water
The results are predictable...

You simply cut the bottom out of the "funnel", the bottom of the vertical rib in the spring bucket, now anything that gets in there simply falls off...
