Ok, I feel like this is dumb question....But I was hoping for some feed back from the more expericenced. I skimmed the tech lib. found some info but not really what I'm looking for.

I want to put in some mechanical gauges tri pack, oil, temp and amp. 86' ext cab, with 2.9.

do I have to keep the temperature sensor that goes to the factory guage?? Meaning that if I just swap out sensors and leave the factory gauge go dead on the dash, will that affect the engine computer??

It would be nice to have both work, to cross referance...but not necessary

thanks

The guage and computer both have their own sender, so you should be ok. I tried running a T in mine, it would be quite as accurate but I didn't like the thought of a 100% dead gauge but I didn't have room on my 2.8.

i have an aftermarket equuis temp gauge on my 2.9 and no side afects to boot. you should be fine.
