Teenager looking into Rangers.A couple Q's

I'd go with a first or second gen 2.9 4WD. I'd rather have 4x4 and not need it than need it and not have it. And the 2.9's are great little motors, and will handle what you say you will be doing with it no problem. Plus, parts are easy to come by for fairly cheap. A new diff (depending where you get it) could run you anywhere from $200 all the way up to $1500. $1500 is the most extreme case I've seen, though.

I had the luxury of driving a 2.3 4 cyl 2wd before getting my 1993 4.0 with 4wd. And I can tell ya, you may or may not need the 4wd or the 4.0, but if you can afford it get it. Its so much FUN!!!! Not to mention it opens the wheeling possibilties with other TRSers in your area. Theres a little more to break, but that means more to learn. Ive also ridden in a B2 4wd, and they are a bangup little truck. Im gonna try to aqquire one here soon, if I can get my shyt together.

Now even though I push a certain thing for its entertainment value, it would be irresponsible of me to suggest anything more than what is financially responsible for you. So be wise with your decision. If you cant afford 15 mpg then dont get a 4.0l youmey never have trouble but when you do emissions problems will kill your mileage. And dont rush into your search for a truck, save your money, take your time, and buy exactly what you want.
