Teach me to deal, HARD

Thanks for the input guys, they already know I am more knowledgeable than them. (salesman types) My questions about the truck are above their understanding. I can talk in payments and whole prices just as easily, I like excell, lol. They have 0% financing on right now, and (as I said) $5000 delivery allowance on the 08's, and $0 down. (I have up to $8K kickin' around for down payment if needed.) The one I'm interested is is $36,000. (41000-5000).

Another note on the 'daily driver' topic. I drive a 99' Dakota, extended cab, 3.9 V6, 4x4, right now. It rides WAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYYYY better than most full size truck I drive here and there, (work, friends, etc) I can roll the the gravel roads I live on at 100km/hr quite comfortably, I drove my sisters 2wd 05' chevy the other day and it didn't even want to stay on the road at 70km/hr, much less be comfortable. Thumbs down. I am kinda looking forward to the IRS, it better not spill my beer over the rough stuff, JJ.

Go to edmunds.com and see what invoice is. This is what the dealer pays not including holdback. That is what you offer to pay. Then take off rebates/incentives. Have this info ready for the truck you want with the options you want. Tell the salesperson when you start negotiating that this is what you will pay. Tell them about the 3% holdback that you DO know about and they won't discuss. BE FIRM. DO NOT BUDGE. You may have to go back but you will get the truck for that.

Never discuss based on payment. do your homework on trades and interest rate. Work the truck price first, then trade, then hit the finance guy. If you have good credit hit the "business manager" in the groin. Do the homework and offer him a 1% markup on the loan. Go for straight bluebook on your trade (if you have one) but be realistic. Rate it properly, your trade is NOT going to ever achieve better than "good" condition.

This will get you the best deal you can get. I sold cars for quite a while and those that did this beat me. The rest did not.

If you are going to get one, go for the 4.6L over the 4.0L......my 4.0L in my 05 trac gets the same mileage as the 4.6L would so why not get the v8?

A good site to go to is nadaguides.com. A good portion of car lots are using this site in place of Kelly Blue Book. More often than not theyll have new car reviews, pricing, and a section that shows how much your trade in is worth. Give it a look. Also, my friend had a Dodge Dakota with the 3.9 Magnum, 5 speed. It had good power and accelerated great, but it only got about 14-16mpg, and had a small gas tank..

Wow, $41,000 for a Explorer based vehicle. You could get a Diesel Super Duty for that much.

I never knew they were so expensive, and the wife wants one... Looks like that is out.

the best trick that i have found is very simple. All you need is a fax machine. You do not have to go dealer to dealer. This will only work on new vehicles.

First go to one dealership find the truck you want. Get a writen quote from them. Also get a copy of the window sticker with all the bells and whistles.

next. Look in the phone book for all the same dealers in the distance you want to drive. (I.E. all the Ford dealerships in a 20 mile radius.)

Get the fax numbers to all of them.

Fax a copy of the quote and the window stick to one of them. See if they can beat it. Most of them will.

Next fax the new quote and window stick to a different dealership.

You do this on and on untill you are happy with your price. The price should start droping by the thousands, then hundreds, the just a couple of dollars.

The Bright side of this is you do not have to deal with salemen day in a nd day out. You do all your work from home or work. And they do not try to sell you anything that you do not want. they try to sell you exactly what you want or something better for the same price.

Hope this helps you and others. If there are any questions feel free to ask.

Wow, they ain't worth that much to me... that is a loaded beyond loaded F-150 at full price or a middle of the road Super Duty... or several of each used.

my first thought was "but it's canadian!"

and then i realized that doesn't change much :dunno:

Actually that makes it even more expensive... that would have to play a large role why you see so few of them.

Seriously check out a Supercrew F-150, it is ALOT more bang for the buck. Mine is a older style extended cab, but I would drive it anywhere at 75mph (weather permitting of course)

So, there is a good likely-hood that it is a truck I will like, but it's more expensive than an F150, that sucks. (and, I dont mean to sound like a whiner, but it has been shown multiple times, that Canadian pay more than Americans for the same goods) Perhaps I should be taking a second look at a new ranger. Or perhaps I should just shop used.

Thank you guys for all the tips on getting the price down. I appreciate it.
