hi guys i got my timingmarks lined up on the number1 piston on comp stroke lined up the marks looks good but the book tells you to line the marks up with tc on the bal that i did but on the pointer the are 2 the one with the peep hole and the point which is the corect one for getting tdci have it at tdc on comp stroke on the tc mark is in the center of the peep hole is this corrector should it be on the other mark thanks for your help.

I lined mine up with heads off when rebuilding; TDC for me was at the strait edge of the timing pointer lined up with the TC mark on the balancer. I used the same for setting base timing as well.

hi pete yea thats what i thought i am putting the finishing touches on the motor i bought a short block and had my heads redone the block was strait up on the timing i put the heads and everything on started turning it over got it on the comp stroke but the tc lines up in the peep i set base timing with the point now if you are saying that everything should be set at the point then i got something wrong .

There are other ways to find TDC. I read somewhere to mod a spark plug, and install a hose in it and make it air tight. Put the other end of the hose in oil. Turn the engine over until no air come out and right before it starts sucking it in. Mark the balancer, and do this the other direction. Mark again. The mid point is TDC. I am sure there are other ways to find it w/o a pointer though, just an example. Not unheard of for a balancer to be off.

hey pete thanks for the info ijust set at the pointer and everything is fine.
