Most states have never tried to tax labor charges because it's too easy to fudge them. Someone pays you cash for 10 hours of labor, but you report just 3 hours on the bill, you get the idea. That's weird. In Va labor is NOT taxed.
These states that have the high fuel taxes; Where do they think they are going to get revenue if everyone goes to electric cars?

Give it time... they’ll tax the air we breath. They will tax the energy somehow...
texas is very expensive to live in. if its not bad in your state, i would stay there.
each county here sets their own vehicle emission requirements. like my county doesn't do anything more than a visual inspection for emissions and if you pass that and the safety inspection, the inspector logs in and approves you so the state will renew your vehicle registration. some counties in san antonio, houston, austin, dallas (basically all the democrat cities) require you to get your car hooked up to a machine and checked for emissions and then if you pass that and safety, they log in and you can register your vehicle each year.
In Virginia hybrids and electric vehicles pay more. The amount isn't too crazy here, but apparently some states really jack it up.I think to get around a gas tax on electric cars, don't they pay a super high registration bill?

Last proposals I saw were a mileage tax. How they get the mileage without people lying about it will be interesting.
Why not, they know everything else about you, what's another little peice of your freedom going to matter. That's pretty much how we got to the point we're at right now.A wireless transponder that uploads your mileage to receivers along highways will take care of that problem.
We already have those. They are called cell phones. Why not, they know everything else about you, what's another little peice of your freedom going to matter. That's pretty much how we got to the point we're at right now.
