talked to my brother in law about a v8 in the bronco.. always a thrill.

The kickdown isn't the issue... it's the torque converter... the 2.8 C5 converter is like 3,000 stall behind the 4.0.

what torque converter do you reccomend for a daily driver? can any c4 torque converter fit in the C5? assuming the C4 valve body has be swapped also?

properly prepared a4ld is fine.

i would not put a carb on anything with a t case...

an eec4 4.0 from a complete running vehicle is as captain caveman simple as it gets. simple to put it in anything....lawn tractor, pool pump...whatever.

20 year old electronics is a legitimate concern. given the options not an issue here.

agreed, and swapping efi these days is so simple anyway there's almost no point of a carb

I don't recommend a 4.0/C5 combo for a daily driver. I tried it with my explorer and took it out for the M5OD. I even had a custom converter made from a V8 Mustang II converter and it still was 2,400 stall and never really locked up. It slipped horribly on the freeway.

Since we are discussing this, it is probably a pretty good time to bring this up...

I was planning on replacing the A4LD in my B2 with a C5 that I have at some point. Keeping the 2.9 for the foreseeable future as well. It is not really a trail rig, probably will be driven around town 90% of the time. Do you think I will have similar results...like is what I want to do a waste of time?

No, C5's work great behind 2.9s. The 2.9 doesn't have that much more torque then the 2.8. It's the torque of the 4.0 that makes it stall higher.

Ah, good deal. I am sure the A4LD will last quite a while longer, it's just one of those projects that I keep in the back of my mind in case the time comes.

ppl can complain about the a4ld as much as they want.. but i've pushed mine hard on some trails and mud, the trans has never failed me.. i don't know much about the c4 or c5. but i don't believe the a4ld is really that bad like most make it sound.

i know you're saying IF it messes up you'll change it.

Some have good luck, some do not. My last one was just about done at 92k and that was 92k of daily driving ONLY, in a stock, extremely well maintained vehicle. I do think they are better than most of the early manual transmissions.
