Taking block to machine shop, need opinions on Ford B Cam

Be that as it may, you'll never know how either setting works unless you try em both on the same build. If you have done this, then hats off to you. If you have not, then you know not what you're talking about. I had great success with it run straight up and saw no reason to do it otherwise.

Look what the UPS guy dropped off today!

Pretty much the same motor im building currently.lol Ill probably start assembly on mine the weekend. Im going with a stock bottom end with new crank kit and rings, comp double roller timing set, b cam, 1.7 RR's on GT40P's. Then im going to swap my Intake and Carb off my current motor and stick on there. Its a Weiand Stealth and Holly 650 DP. Also got a new Fidanza aluminum flywheel and King Cobra clutch. My buddy has the b cam in his mustang with afr 185cc heads and vic jr. Its pulls like crazy above 3-4 grand and its got a great sounding idle.

I really want to upgrade to 1.7:1 at some point. I have 1 set of 1.6:1 crane roller rockers 5/16" stud mount and another unmarked set 1.6:1 that's 7/16.

What are your opinions on the Weiand Stealth? I was looking at it since it's advertised idle to 6,500RPM.

LOL, I am curious on what you would run..

Pete

The Stealth is basically a clone of the Performer RPM, there's not 5 hp difference between em. Another goody is the Ford A321, which is an older "unequal length runner" design (as opposed to the Stealth/RPM's equal length runnners) It too, will hold up the power as good as the others and pull to 6500.

I think its a great intake for the street. Its not a super high flow like a vic jr. or parker funnel web but its great for what I want it to do. Its got good torque and pulls all the way to my 6000 chip. I got mine used for 60 bucks so you can beat it with a stick.

Right now mine probably wouldnt make a pass worth a crap. The motor in it is about slam worn out but I got it for free so you cant expect much. I jsut threw a little cam in put the intake and carb on her and been giving her hell ever since. Its got a LOT of blowby and one cylinder hardly has any compression. It runs half decent for what it is.

After i get my other motor built and get it all put in and tuned good then im goign to put about a 100-150 shot on it and take it to the track and see what I can do. If I can get it to hook ill probably jsut break the T5.lol

Here are a couple pics of mine.

Clean setup, are those aluminum valve covers?

I will take the Weiand or Performer RPM manifold with consideration, basically this is going to be for street mainly.

Is there an difference in fuel delivery with the uneven intake runners, like the longer runner not getting as good fuel atomization, or is the air/fuel mixture moving so fast that it's doesn't make much difference? The latter makes more sense..

The nearest strip is about an hour and a half away in Muncie, IN. I really wish we had one closer.

My 327 had a Vic. Junior and it was too much. I bought the engine already assembled off a friend, and just dropped it in. I was going to get the Stealth manifold, but opted to sell the car to buy a D/D and build up my Ranger instead. I really wasn't too impressed with it, I think what I hated the most on the street was the 3 speed transmission (TH 350).

I havent noticed anything to do with the fuel delievery. If there was a problem I dont think people would buy dual planes. So I dont think you have to worry about that al all.

Yes, the valve covers are cast aluminum. Stock valve covers for a 87-93 Mustang.

I've run both the RPM and the A321 and there's no difference. I prefer the A321 as it's what's considered a "factory" intake. It's been around in many forms since the mid 60's. From the Shelby "Cobra" high rise, to Ford's factory C9OX (sold thru the dealer's parts counters) to Edelbrock's old F4B and now as the Ford Racing A321. Great intake.

Did you ever attend the Avilla Street Drags? I used to go as a spectator,
never raced.

No, I've heard about them. I've never really thought to go, but I might have to check it out.

My dad used to take me to Bear Field Speedway sometimes when I was a kid for some of the circle track stuff. I pretty sure my step brother does some racing w/ a 2.3L in a Mustang, they're "Miller Racing". My dad remarried when I was older, so I never really knew them, but I see them at Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Did get the engine and heads into the machine shop. They're turning down the crank, boring for new cylinder walls, balancing w/ forged pistons, installing my cam and bearings, magnafluxing the heads, checking for straitness, etc, etc. By the time it's all said and done, I should have enough to build the long block. They're matching prices, so I just let them deal w/ getting the bearings and whatever else to approperiately fit. :D

It will set in a bag in my garage until I build up more funds, still need a lot of stuff, but I am defintely getting there.

Any opinions on what stall converter would work best with this cam and an AOD transmission?

Engine has been in the shop for a week and a half. :c-n:

I am sure they're just doing a through job, I know one of the employees at the shop! No discount, but I don't care if I can get quality work.
