Hey I have a 1998 ranger and when I put in into 4wd it takes a long time to kick in, it seems like when I leave it in 4wd and shut it off the truck and restart it it kicks in, i also put the rugged ridge manual hubs on it to.

Sometimes I have to shut of and restart to get mine to kick into 4lo. Its possible your shift motor is getting dirty, or wearing out. I would follow the Shift motor cleaning article in the tech section and see what it does.

well i changed the transfer case motor before i did the manual hub conversion, maybe i need to try another motor?

changing the motor doesnt mean you get a clean motor from the donor. Unless it was brand spankin new. The inerds of the motor could still be dirty, read the article on cleaning then decide if its a possible problem. Also you had PVM hubs. The manual hub conversion eliminates this muck. My bro in law has a 97 fullsize with live axes but the vacuum lines still affect his front diff and transfer case somehow. Is your automatic? I would look for any busted lined.

nope its a manual, and i allready replaced the rubber lines before i did the manual hub swap, and i put on a reman motor on it. could it be that module/computer that controls the motor?
