Takata Recall

Only weird thing is they said it would take about half a day. They told me to drop or mod the night before or early the day of the appointment and pick it up in the afternoon…

Thats they way they do most things. Drop it off...

When defects are identified the manufacturer has a very short time to announce a recall- days or weeks at most. It used to drive me nuts because Ford would announce upcoming recalls(as required by law) before a fix was available and we'd get inundated with calls. Get any recalls you receive taken care of, it's free and might make the vehicle safer or better.
Some companies handle recalls differently. The first person killed in a Honda by a Takata airbag happened in 2001. The car was found in a ditch with minimal damage and the woman had what looked to the cops like a stab wound in her neck. They had a person of interest they were looking at until the autopsy found airbag fragments in her neck. More people died over the years, at least 2 in 2004 but I forget the rest. Honda announced a recall in the fall of 2014 when NHTSA forced them.
My information came from Automotive News, a trade magazine I used to get.
