Tailight fillers and LED's

anybody ever made up some tail light fillers and mounted some led's in them on a ranger or b2 like this??

seems like they would be pretty simple to make for the 1st and 2nd gen guys, and would be easy to match the factory curves of the taillights.

take the stock tail light out, measure twice, cut out some pieces of metal mimicking the shape of the tail light...mounting holes and all. then weld em up

what do u guys think? im thinking about making some and use some led's in it like the xj guys...should i do it? my tail lights are faded and ive got paint overspray that refuses to come off

I'm going to be making some for my Cherokee here in the next few weeks. Doesn't seem complicated at all. Think it would be even easier on the ranger because you could buy a set of the premade filler panels some of the 2wd guys use when they shave the rear, and just cut holes for the lights and install.

Well that's wat made me think of it. I was searchn around and came across some that the lowered guys use to shave the lights and was thinkn wow thatd be ez. U have to weld those, I'd rather not have to weld em in, I just painted my rig back in the summer. Guess my next project is gonna be some filler boxes. Ill even do a write up with measurements

I haven't removed my tails in over a year, but couldn't you trim them to fit exactly like the stockers, and then drill screw holes in the panel in the same place the holes are on the stockers? wouldn't that allow it to be mounted by the 2or3 screws the stockers use?

If that makes sense lol...It makes sense in my head!

im thinkin itd prolly be easier to make some new ones from scratch, aint too much too em, plus most have thing metal like that just laying around. my grandpa has access to a bending brake as well so that'll help out

Making square light fillers for the Gen3 ranger won't look good if you ask me ( no one has) . Possibly cutting a hole for the led light, sinking it into the existing light lense then blacking out the rest of the light. Either way a lot of work. I see it looking better and being easier to make one out of metal for the older generation squarish rangers.

personally i think all of the pics above look like shit... the only way to make them look worse would be to paint them body colour... it's like a half assed job in my opinion, now if you wanted to do a full shave, with no seams, that would look killer! i've seen a few chevy full size pickups with the thin caddy LED strips on each side, pure sex! (btw that is the first time i have EVER said pure sex about any chevy product... EVER)

my honest honest HONEST opinion, don't try to do anything custom unless you are going to do it right... for the amount of time you are going to put into it, make sure you would show it off and put your name on it, take pride in your work, and your vehicle...

those circular yj lights you see at some shops, would look sweet shaved/frenched into the back of a ranger... but you better do a full custom install to make them fit...

that being said, this is my opinion, and it is your vehicle... if i bought a vehicle with those blocks on it, i would take them off and put stock lights back on because i think they look terrible and half assed... it should look like it came from the factory like that... even if it was a custom from the factory...
