tailhousing swap

Is it possible to swap a tailhousing from a 91 3.0 to a 99 4.0 5 speed? Both are m50d 2wd but I need the cable hook-up from the 3.0. Is it a direct swap?

Should be. I can't think of anything else that changed on that end of the trans.

Will the '99' trans even have the hole and drive gear to accept a cable? Boss might be there but not machined.

I took it as him wanting to put the 91 tail housing on the newer trans. That should be possible, and then the drive gear would need swapped, but it is accessible just by removing the tail stock.

Yeah I want to know if it's possible to put the 3.0 tailhousing on the 4.0

Yes, its' the other end of the trans that changes with the engine.
