tailgate from lmc

Has anyone bought a tailgate from lmc for a 1988 ranger or 1st gen ranger i was maybe going to buy one but i have two questions.Does it come complete with all the hardware and does it come prepainted in red?thanks

Probably comes in the generic black that most auto body parts come painted in.

I don't know about the hardware, but if you don't have the aluminum cover you will notice it doesn't have the F O R D stamped in it.

Lmc stuff is thin too. Thin enough that if you use your truck bed as a truck bed and put any kind of weight on the gate, that lmc gate will notice it, odds are you'll notice it too. Head to the local junk yard, you'll save money and end up with a superior product.

reduce, reuse, recycle, get one from a boneyard, cheaper and not made outa cheap chinese metal.

ok i got one more question what type goes on the 1988? Just the regular tailgate or the one with the aluminum peice that says ford?

At one point it pry had the aluminum piece so it doesnt matter..

any tailgate from 83 to 92 will fit.
AFAIK, only the later tailgates had the aluminum panels, 86+

Only base trucks had the F O R D, higher end trucks became more popular later on and the aluminum became more common.

Both are shown in my '85 brochure.

Go with what you like, I like the simpleness of the letters.

the plate was an XLT thing... they're the same gate, one just has holes in it to mount the plate

ok i like just the regular tailgate.So my best bet is to go to a junk yard and find a good one off a gen 1 ranger and get it painted to match my truck?and what about the bed liner?I have bed liner plastic in my bed but if i get a tailgate i want it to match can i just find the company thats on the bed linder and get them to send me one for the tailgate?

you have a drop in liner? does your current gate have the panel on it? If so, they're just screwed on, just swap it over.

If it's a spray in, go to a place that does it and have them spray it

yea i have a drop in liner and my truck doesnt currently have a tailgate it hasent had one since i bought it.Anyone know about how much is would cost to get a tailgate painted

I was going to buy a cowl hood from LMC till I read the small print: Shipped from overseas and may have have dings in it from shipping damage. That just turned me off enough, at least they were up front with that info.

A first or second generation tailgate will work. While you are there at the JY look for a liner panel.
