tailgate from lmc

reduce, reuse, recycle, get one from a boneyard, cheaper and not made outa cheap chinese metal.

You may think that...... When I needed a replacement for my 95 every junkyard wanted 4x more for a used factory tail gate, and most of them will more than likely have a dent or two in them. Any aftermarket tailgate will be primer black, no hardware, and be thinner sheet metal.

But if you check the part before you buy it you will get one without dents for a fraction of the price. My certifit tailgate was $50, no dents, fit the same, but is of course thin sheet metal. It works, and cost a lot less.

I want one that matches the one in the bed though

Unless you have a one off bed liner you might be able to find one.

I have yet to find one in as good of condition as mine (well used with one latch ripped free and surface rust) Most are either caved in, almost folded in half or rusted to heck. Never got to pricing yet

I needed one for my Gen1 and every used one around me for 100 miles wanted $150 for one ins "fair" condition. I bought an LMC one for $99. Yes, it's thinner and lighter and didn't come with hardware. But I'm not going to be using my truck to haul everything in the world either. Go whichever route you prefer. The factory ones are heavier and will last longer, but I have yet to find a straight one in the yard. Just my 2 ¢

i guess i was just lucky living in california and just happened to see a few nice tailgates at pick n pull. i still say if you use your truck for work and stuff to get an OEM one and just fix it up, im surprised tailgates cost that much, ive been finding them for under 50$ lately on craigslist

I just need a tailgate that will be enough to hold a 400 yamaha fourwheeler to get it on the truck. But if i buy a tailgate from lmc how much would it be for all of the hardware to? Cause i dont have a tailgate at all so which would be cheaper get one from a junkyard and get painted or get one from lmc and buy the hardware and get painted?

junkyard.

you'll have to get a j/y one anyway for the hardware, and the aftermarket one will bow under the weight of an atc.

and ya,they can be hard to find in decent shape.

Also, keep your eyes open for one in your neighborhood or that you drive by regularly that happens to get wrecked. Offer the owner a few bucks for it.
