i KNOW there is a thread on here somewhere about this, but i can't find it... i remember someone talking about painting their tail lights, similar to the headlight mod, it might have been on r-f but i don't think so... someone posted that they knew someone who did it to an f-150 tail light and it looked incredible... similar to nightshading, but much better... can someone provide pics please?

Hmm those aren't the ones I was talking about, the ones I was talking about someone baked the stock ones then painted the inside

I have been looking for these lights for a year now and can't find them. Must be discontinued.

I plan on buying the clear versions, taking them apart, and painting the chrome and lenses with red DupliColor Metalcast

I used this on my current taillights to paint over the amber in my taillights and it turned out good

.

You can still find those tails on ebay.

Correct, when i say take them apart, I mean seperating the lense from the housing so I can paint the chrome on the housing and the backside of the lense. Then reassemble everything with silicone. Have have not done this so can't offer any advise yet

.

Actually those are the smokey/red. I want the clear/red. The pics are deceving on the ad. I actually ordered those smokey reds from that seller and they are waaayy darker than the picture leads you to believe. I mean waay darker. I think they are too dark for street use. I returned them in hopes to exchange for clear/red but they (and everyone else) tells me they are currently out of stock from the manufacturer.

That seller also advertises the red/clear but I looked closer and the title says red/clear but the ad is really for the smokey/red. I complained a few weeks ago and he said he was going to correct those ads. Hasnt yet.

Anyway, I figured I would get the straight clear ones, disassemble the lenses from the housings, duplicolor metalcast the chrome housing and backside of the lenses, reassemble them and see how they turn out.

Question, what type of glue or silicone do you use when reassembling the lights?

.

I was actually wanting to get the smoked ones before you said that.

I think you might be happier going to a junkyard and finding a pair of '06+ tails...

I was considering those too but don't want to deal with the conversion to 2 bulbs just yet. Plus 06 and newer rangers are rare in the junkyards around here

.

so no one has any idea about the thread i asked about in post 1?

Yeah, contact and ask them if they are available. My guess is they willl say no. I think they were one of the ones I contacted.

I took the part number, googled it, and emailed several of the resellers asking if they were available and they all said no. I even contacted Option Racing directly

Let me know if they have them and I will buy them too.

yes i have stock tail lights, someone posted on either this site or RF, a picture of someone who did this to a set of f-150 lights, they painted the chrome reflector, black, on a stock light, then re-sealed it, it gave a similar effect to nightshading, but different at the same time... looked really good... i just can't find the thread anywhere! neither the one posted on which ever ranger forum it was, nor the f-150 forum the mod was originally posted on... i know a girl who is looking to do something along those lines to her 06 f-150 and i was trying to find pics of the ones i saw for her, just to give her as many options as possible...
