I got a Sunpro Tach and am having some problems installing it. I read the section about installing it but i still need some help.

I found the yellow/tan wire i need to splice the green into, i cannot however find find which wires to splice the red, white and black wires into. the help section suggested using the radio, but mine is aftermarket and all the wires are tucked away and i cant get to them. Help me please, diagrams or pics would also be very helpful. (visualizations always help me.)

i could be wrong on these, but red will go to ignition power, black to ground, and white to illumination, so something on the dimmer for interior lighting, like your dash lights, or hvac control lighting...

the green should be signal to the tach

your instructions should tell you pretty straight forward on those...

no my instructions dont help. they are literally half a page and give less info.

but i found the illumination wire (i think) light blue with red stripe and a little thicker than the others. still cant tell where to splice the red wire and ground black wire into, for the power and ground

I believe the blue/red thick wire is going to be ignition or start wire (if it's under your steering column). I have a wiring diagram I can scan for you if you need it. The ground can go to any metal. When I had a tach on mine, I just connected the signal wire right by the computer.

Oh ok that makes sense that it would be thicker. and the wire diagram would be very helpful, thanks.
and where would the red go?

NO! don't connect it to start, it won't allow the tach to work at any time, other than when you are cranking it...

your power wire will go to key on power, your ground will go to ground, your illumination wire will go to a dimmed power source, (like the lights on your dash or hvac controls, or just straight 12v, if you wish it NOT to dim with the rest of your lights) and your signal to the signal wire on the truck

sorry if i come across as a dick, but if you can't figure out where to put a ground, and a key on power source, you might not want to be installing this on your own...

i know what the wires do. i cannot find the wires to splice the tachometer with, i dont have the manual for the truck that tells me where the specific wires are and their colors. that is what i need help with: locating the wires.

you need a multimiter
