I’ve got a 1988 2.9 xlt.
Newly swapped with a 5 speed. The tachometer has never worked but ~10% of the time. Nothing changed with the manual of course. I can do fine without it but would like to have it working 100% anyways. I have a suspicion it’s a ground issue and want to know if anyone has dealt with this before. Do I need to pull the cluster out to diagnose or is there an alternative?

I have the truck at about a 5” drop up front now and aligned it the best I could on my own, decided to get a professional alignment with some very old yet camber bushings I was able to track down on eBay. Was not easy 😣 . I have never paid someone to work on the truck before but since it will be there I was thinking of getting him to fix the tach as well. I’ve got a good bit of experience, rebuilt the A4LD while searching for my trans doner. Axle flipped, notched, beams, frame wire wheeled and coated. If y’all think I can fix the tach please let me know haha. I don’t mess with electrical much.

Thank you.
