I am in need of tachometer help on my 89 Ranger. Hit the ignition switch and it pegs out at 6,000 rpms and stays there til I shut it off. Help greatly appreciated.

Welcome to TRS :)

What engine is in your 1989 Ranger?

If you have a distributor then tach signal comes from Coil's "-" terminal
If no distributor then it comes from the ICM(ignition control module)

But...........problem is most likely the tach itself

If you are capable at soldering you can re-flow all the contact points on the back of the tach module.

The tachometers in the 89-92 Ranger and F-150s from that era are prone to solder point weakening and breakages.
