Could I take the factory tach from another B2 and put it in mine where the oil pressure, temp, volt meter and gas gauge goes.

I suppose you could change the guage cluster one with a tach, if you have the wires for the cluster otherwise you need the harness also. Go aftermarket and find someplace cool to mount it.

Maybe you could go to the bone yard and look at the options you have look at one like yours and compare it to one with a tach (harness connector).

Yeah i thought about doing that, but its hard to find B2's in the junk yards by me. :)

I thought about an after market one. But i kinda wanted to keep my car look as stock as i can.
If i can swap it over with out any trouble then i will go with that, but if is to difficult i will go aftermarket.

If you can find a stock tach cluster it should be plug and play, maybe one or two wires to connect. Cluster from a Ranger will work equally well.

I know where there is an 85 B2 near me. I don't know what cluster is in it or if it works, but I'd go pull the cluster for you if you are interested. Just give me price + shipping.

I don't know if you can take a tach head and just put it in the existing cluster but I also know where there is a tach in a broken cluster.

So i can take the whole cluster and swap it in no problem, just not only the tach part?

Thats what he said that would be cool wonder if I could do that with mine now gonna look into it

when you remove your cluster take note of the wiring colors on the connectors, and ill compare them to mine

Dont waste your money on a stock guage cluster! I tryed to do this it wont work. My 86 did not have a tach, I went to a junkyard and pulled a tach setup out of an 86. The harnesses are different. good news is now I have a spare guage cluster for my 88BII....lol:annoyed:

EDIT: Just so you know it wont even plug in. I had to go aftermarket, 30bucks, one wire goes to the negative on the coil, on my 86 it was green. then just a + and - for the tachs light.

I know that some of the explorer and gen 3 guys were swapping in tach clusters. I don't know how well it works on the earlier ones.

Thanks 8BII, i was just about to go to the junk yard and get one. I guess i will have to go aftermarket then. Lame. I wanted to keep it looking stock as possible. Oh well

you could always modify a stock guage cluster with a tach to incorporate and after market tach ( replacing the components, etc ) and wire it up. Shouldnt be to hard to make it look stock. Hope that makes sense...
