Hi, I completed my 96 Explorer 5.0 to 95 Mazda B2300 swap a year ago, but decided to tackle a tach issue that I haven't been able to resolve yet. The problem i'm having is the tach is reading around 6k at 65mph. I am aware of the wire swap {blk yellow wire on pin 8 of the 10pin connector to pin 16 on the 16 pin connector of the inst. cluster harness} , however this doesn't apply in this case. What I have on my b2300 plugs are a pink w/grn. stripe wire on pin 8 of the 10 pin and a blk. w/yel. stripe wire already in pin 16 of the 16 pin connector. Has anyone else come across this? I'm using the 96 Explorer engine trans. harness and pcm. Also using a 5spd trans. out of 88 bronco 2 for my 4x4. transfer case hookup. The speedo and all other gauges work fine. Just the tach going into orbit on the road is bugging me. Anybody out there run into this problem? The tach at an idle reads around 1050 rpms.

Dakota Digital makes a universal tach interface, if you can't resolve the issue with on-board wiring.

google: dakota digital Universal Tachometer Signal Interface

You might just need to get an Explorer cluster in there.

Your using a b2 stock transmission behind a 5.0 and it hasn't grenaded yet?

Thanks for the advice. I'll look into Dakota. Ed

I tried the inst. cluster out of my 96 Explorer parts car. Tach activity is the same and ammeter , oil pressure gauges don't read right. Thanks for the re. anyway.

I was warned long before I started this swap about the eggshell trans. The only way I get away with this is being an old fart and driving a lot different than I did when I was younger. I've spread plenty of rubber and speedy dry in the past. The only burnout now is me. However, the project itself was energetic. Ed
