Tach problems Help

I have a 96 ranger originally a 3.0 with a swapped in 2.3 turbo and I'm not sure how to hook up a tach. I'd like to keep the tach in the cluster but I'm not sure if it can simply be hooked to the coil or if it needs to run somewhere else. It has the la3 computer.
